Yes, I’m fed up with the blind rumors about Silent Hill, as are you, but wait, it could be the latter’s credit.
This latest Silent Hill rumor is the last in a long line, but there’s at least some flesh on the bones this time around. The Korean game evaluation committee, GRAC, assessed the yet unannounced game of Silent Hill with a never-before-seen subtitle (thanks, Gematsu (opens in a new tab)).
So far, all we got from this rating is the title of the game. Named after Silent Hill: Short message. We still don’t know if the game will hit the PS5, Xbox Series X | S or Nintendo Switch, or if it will be a mobile spin-off.
And if you are concerned about Konami’s love of making pachinko machines based on beloved IP addresses, don’t be. Pachinko is banned in South Korea, so ratings for such games are unlikely to be considered in this country.
In my restless dreams, I see this city …
Nobody wants a new high-budget game, Silent Hill, more than me. I would bet my money on it. Even so, it’s hard to get excited about a game rating that may not even exist in the end.
And even if so, we don’t know much about Silent Hill: The Short Message. However, I think we can at least speculate what a game based on this subtitle would be.
When looking at the “short” part of this subtitle, a few things immediately come to mind. The first is, of course, PT – the utterly creepy (and now discontinued) Hideo Kojima’s PS4 trailer for what would be Silent Hills. The second is Beginning Hour, the own playable trailer for Resident Evil 7, released a few months before the release of Capcom’s survival horror.
So my best guess of what Short Message might be is a trailer that is similar in scope to that of PT and Beginning Hour. It would make sense. Both of the examples I have mentioned have worked wonders in promoting their projects. And while Silent Hills never saw the light of day, PT remains an influential horror film that lives on in many inspired indie games.
