If you decided to play Resident Evil Village over the weekend on Steam, you’ve likely been banned from the game and banned before you could tell Lady Dimitrescu.
Injured players were faced with a sudden black screen and a message stating that their data was “inconsistent”. If you tried to restart Resident Evil Villageyou don’t have access to your save file – no scary monsters this weekend.
This crash and save corruption bug could be caused by having a specific DLC. Capcom introduced a new “anti-tamper code” in its latest patch for the Village, says Steam user FluffyQuack in forum post (opens in a new tab). This is to prevent any modification to the game, but it seems to be malfunctioning and freezes users’ games altogether.
Capcom confirmed the error and says an official fix is coming:
To all Steam players in Resident Evil Village: We know of a persistent issue with the latest patch causing the game to crash for some users. We are currently working on a fix and apologize for any inconvenience!October 17, 2022
Repeating history
This isn’t the first Capcom rodeo to crash on PC. In 2007, the port of Capcom Resident Evil 4 wreaked havoc with unsuspecting PC gamers. Unfortunately, Capcom has ported an inferior version of the Playstation 2 rather than the better version of the Nintendo GameCube.
Initially, the PC version was devoid of the original lighting, lower-quality textures, and vermin. All of this made customers dissatisfied and computers even more unhappy, as bugs caused many of them to crash.
Capcom eventually hired QLOC to develop another PC port, which was later released on Steam as the Ultimate HD version in 2014.
Who cares?
Funnily enough, people don’t seem too annoyed by this destructive patch. One look at Capcom’s Twitter replies to their apology post is all it takes to show what people really want: The Resident Evil Showcase.
The Resident Evil show begins on October 20, 2022 (6:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. PT / 10:00 p.m. GMT / 9:00 a.m. AEDT Wednesday)
The presentation contains the latest news and announcements regarding updates, trailers and other information related to the Resident Evil series. He has fans of foam on his lips and people are clamoring for more information on the Resident Evil 4 remake. Hopefully, Capcom can fix all the bugs this time before the PC release.
